Admire Kamudzengerere: Portraits & Paintings

This exhibition marks Zimbabwean artist Admire Kamudzengerere’s third solo exhibition with the gallery and first solo exhibition in Romania. It takes a deeper look at his monotype portraiture, bringing together rare “first generation” works from 2017-2019, alongside new 2026 iterations of his evolved process almost 10 years later.

Together, these works trace the arc of Kamudzengerere’s ongoing development of the print medium, utilizing lithography stones in experimental ways and combining this with his signature screen printing techniques. What began in 2013 as a necessary act of preservation after the passing of his father, gradually evolved into a ritual of self discovery, a way of moving through, and reflecting upon, the many versions of himself that emerge over time.

The portraits are set agains the political paintings he was making during the pandemic years, centering the the exhibition more boradly on Kamudzengerere’s decade-long engagement with political and psychological tension, and the volatile nature of recent history.
