Admire Kamudzengerere
Newsprint Collages, 2021

Ahead of his joint show, Haipere nyaya yacho, Admire spent six months working in Bucharest, Romania, in 2021. These paper collages are a tangible and direct example of the how the context and atmosphere influenced and affected his work, as it was expected. While living and working in Bucharest’s post-communist environment, the artist noted that many parallels the country faced as a former Soviet Eastern European country are also challenges occuring on both micro and macro levels of post-colonial Africa, and the artist’s homeland of Zimbabwe. As the artist decended deeper into research, it led him also down a rabbit hole of exploring the many connections between the African continent and communism.
