TV screens, but they were looking more ghostly than usual, like all ghosts of a certain age.

At the beginning of Space Age design, our furniture took on ascendent aspirations, eliciting—then harboring and storing— the praise of our eyes. The Cosmic seemed to lean in and slide closer to the minutiae of our domestic lives, within the intimate distance where breath becomes warm and visible. A closeness to our pupils that dilated them and kept them larger than normal. Possessing enough characteristics to put on display a sensuousness evoked for our delight. We’re looking at cosmic aspirations from the confections present in our human reals, of our making and manufacturing, of our fantasies.

Their eyes are closed but TVs are  worth looking at even when they’re off.
