Developing an evoloving language has always been a part of Steimer’s process. One shape leads into another. One painting leads to the next. If cross hatching enters the work, it gets bigger in the next piece, and then bolder in the one after, only to fade away again and give way to another mark or method.
The paper works are the breeding ground for this development. Evolving much faster than the canvas paintings, here Steimer can begin ideas that are refined in larger works.
