For his first exhibition in New York, Terrence Musekiwa, could not join us into America due to his visa being rejected by the US Embassy in Harare (fastforward 5 applications and 2 years and we finally got him in!)
In his stead, Musekiwa sent six sculptures that solidified exactly what we first believed about this young artist: he makes in a unique voice, his talent is only overshadowed by his ambition and sense of self, and he is powerful… among other qualities we’ve come to admire in him as an artist, a man, and a father.
With this Coming To America series, as we playfully called it, Musekiwa sent us an introduction to what was to come: and artist who works in series, responding to his cultural, political, and physical surroundings; one who moves through materials, never afraid to experiment in an attempt to touch something new.
