Terrence Musekiwa
Overseers, 2016

Three figures mark Musekiwa’s first inclusion at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe. These unusually (and maybe uncomfortably) tall figures take in the space from two opposite sides of the grand sun lit room.

Sometimes making humans, other times ancestors or spirits, Musekiwa opens a fresh dialogue about religious changes, the making of history, forgotten traditions of magic, and the quotidian turmoil that is still at the heart of most Africans living today.
