Venus Rising—a suite of dynamic new canvases by Gail Stoicheff. Continuing to draw from mythology, here she takes the constellations of the zodiac as her cast of characters, expounding playfully on the legends of their genesis. Mixing established lore with the personally tangential, one could think of her work as painting-as-mood board—that which has been fantasized, studied, collected, reified and through a kind of painterly transubstantiation, now gazes back.
